Information about the interviews.
On a year-long research trip from the Caspian Sea through Central Asia, China and South Korea to Japan, I conducted 56 interviews in 16 languages. In terms of content, the questions revolved around which languages the protagonists speak, which countries they have been to and would like to visit. And then above all about the different influences that they see for themselves and their country.
The aim was to capture different perspectives on the world from different regions.
In a first project, the interviews were used for the sound installation from here…. For this purpose, they were transcribed and translated and were on display during the exhibition to enable visitors to immerse themselves in the statements of individuals.
The interviews were conducted spontaneously, on the train, in a café, sometimes after an invitation to a house. The protagonists were not prepared for the questions. They are snapshots. Answers that might have been different at another time.
