about the travel

India

In the winter of 2003 I traveled to India again. I drove to Varanasi from Delhi to visit a friend’s tabla teacher. This gave rise to the idea to record a CD for this tabla player Keshava Rao Nayak. After 3 weeks I traveled on to Rajastan to visit a friend there. However, my hand luggage was stolen on the way. All the field recordings, the concert footage, my diary, all the slide films and my camera were gone. However, I still had my recorder because I was also recording during the theft. After a few days in Rajastan I decided to return to Varanasi to record concerts for the CD again. So I stayed there for a total of about 6 weeks. A traveler lent me her small camera and I roamed the city again to start a second collection of field recordings.

This trip was the decisive factor in founding the label fragment recordings. The CD “Varanasi concert” was created.
